2 top-ranking CTG officials nabbed in Tarlac and Pampanga

    Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – Two top-ranking Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members of Regional White Area Executive Committee under the Central Luzon Regional Party were nabbed by the joint elements of the Tarlac PNP, Criminal Investigation Detection Group 3 (CIDG-3), Mabalacat PNP, and the 3rd Mechanized Battalion in a simultaneous law enforcement operations in Tarlac and Pampanga by virtue of Search Warrants for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives on March 30, 2021.
    One of the arrested was Florentino Viuya Jr., a resident of Brgy. Anapul, Bamban, Tarlac. He is the Chairperson of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan Gitnang Luzon; Workers Alliance Region 3; Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), and Executive Committee member of the Regional White Area Committee (RWAC).
    The other suspect was identified as Jose Canlas of Brgy. Duquit, Mabalacat City, Pampanga. He is the Chairperson of Alyansa ng mga Magbubukid sa Gitnang Luzon (AMGL), KMU; Vice Chairperson of Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas; head of the Regional Peasant Bureau; and Executive Committee member of the RWAC.
    Both are facing violations of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and R.A 9561 or Illegal Possession of Explosives.
    During the simultaneous law enforcement operations, the authorities seized two (2) pistols, two (2) hand grenades, 37 pieces of live ammunition, subversive documents, NPA flags, shirts, wallets and identification cards.
    Following the arrest, Canlas was brought to CIDG Region 3 in Camp Olivas, while Viuya was brought to CIDG Tarlac, Tarlac PPO, Camp Macabulos, Tarlac City prior to the inquest proceedings before the prosecutor’s office.
    "We are enhancing our joint operations to ensure that those who violate the laws of the land and committed crimes against the people will be duly and legally punished," said Brigadier General Andrew Costelo, Commander of the Army’s 703rd Infantry (Agila) Brigade.
    After learning of the arrest, the Commander of the 7th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, Major General Alfredo V. Rosario Jr., commended the operating elements involved in the joint operations and cited how missions are better accomplished through the combined efforts of government security agencies.
