27 more NPA mass supporters left armed struggle; mother of NPA seeks help

Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – Another 27 members of New People's Army supporters, including 2 minors, who are members of the Underground Mass Organization (UGMO) under Komiteng Larangang Gerilya (KLG) Sierra Madre, returned to the folds of the law on November 12, 2019 at Sitio Malidhi, Barangay Minuli, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija.

Said personalities are members of the UGMO formed by the NPAs in Carranglan.

On November 6, 2019, of the 53 NPA supporters who surrendered in Caranglaan, two (2) are from Barangay Minuli.

Lieutenant Colonel Honorato S. Pascual Jr., Commanding Officer of the 84th Infantry (Victorious) Battalion, worked with Police Lieutenant Colonel Alex Aurelio of the Nueva Ecija Provincial Police Office, the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (2PMFC), the Barangay Peace and Order Council, and Barangay Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (BTF ELCAC) of Barangay Minuli, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija. The combined efforts of these agencies & instrumentalities ensured the smooth surrender of the underground mass supporters.

One of the surrenderees, Narda S. Agmaliw, 61 years old, a member of Kalanguya tribe, sought the help of the Army. He is the mother of Eleuterio S. Agmaliw, whose alias among NPAs is "Omeng", an active NPA member of Komiteng Larangang Guerrilla (KLG) Sierra Madre. She said that her son was recruited into the NPA in 1992 when he was only 17 years old, and for the past 27 years he was with the NPA terrorist movement. She requested that her plea to her son be video recorded, to assure that her message will reach him.

Major General Lenard T. Agustin, Commander of the Army’s 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, was glad of the series of surrenders that have been taking place in the provinces under 7ID’s responsibility.

Taking note that Carranglan is a mountainous municipality where various groups of indigenous people reside, and, more importantly, that two minors were included in the list of surrenderees, Major General Agustin remarked “It is very alarming that communist terrorist groups (CTGs) are exploiting vulnerable minorities, especially the youth sector. We are countering these activities by enhancing our information drives, working hand-in-hand with other agencies and local government units, using the ‘whole-of-nation approach’. The BTF ELCAC of Brgy. Minuli has done well. It must be aggressive in making other NPA mass supporters see the light as we cannot just stand by and let the NPA influence the youth. It is their children at stake here.”

Lieutenant Colonel Pascual Jr., showing support to Major General Agustin’s statement, said, “We will continue to work with the LGU and the different sectors of the society. We will provide livelihood projects and capacity development programs that will prevent them (the youth and cultural minorities) from being tricked once again by the unscrupulous acts of the NPA.”
