Ex-KADAMAY members conduct Peace Rally

Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – Members of Pagkakaisa ng Mamamayan Tungo sa Kaayusan (PMTK), a former Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY) affiliate, conducted a peace rally at Pandi Village 2, Barangay Mapulang Lupa, Pandi, Bulacan on November 10, 2019.

The peace rally was held to convince the remaining KADAMAY members to leave the resettlement areas in Pandi Village 2.

On March 8, 2017, around 5,000 KADAMAY members simultaneously occupied vacant units of the National Housing Authority (NHA) projects in Pandi, Bulacan. However, after the group allegedly committed human right violations such as rape, murder, and rampant corruption, some members broke away from the group and organized PMTK, a new group that is now against KADAMAY and its ill doings.

The activity was made by the group in collaboration with the following offices/agencies: the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace, Recocilliation and Unity (OPAPRU), Technical Educational and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and the NHA, with the Army’s 48th Infantry (Guardians) Battalion and the Philippine National Police providing security. It was attended by around 2,000 pro-government members of PMTK who marched from BJMP/BFP Housing, Barangay Siling Bata, Pandi, Bulacan, and passing through Villa Louise towards Pandi Village 2 (Atlantika).

During the peace rally, 30 former members of underground mass organizations (UGMOs) operating in the resettlement gave a presentation and participated in the open forum among leaders and members of PMTK and representatives from NHA, TESDA and OPAPRU. Said group is seeking help from different government agencies to facilitate a way for inclusive development to reach its members.

Major General Lenard T. Agustin, Commander of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, said, “Former KADAMAY members, now PMTK, has finally seen the light and successfully broke free from the oppressive and corrupt actions of KADAMAY. As they denounce the presence of KADAMAY in the resettlement areas, they also show that they are now ready to work for peace alongside the government. I am happy that they have done this, now it is our turn - in the Army and the Government - to show that they have made the right decision.”

“This activity marks the success of our fight against the communist terrorist groups (CTG) and its affiliates. The settlers are now informed about what they are going to suffer if they continue to merge with left-leaning organizations. Fortunately, they have also recognized the advantage of going back to government,” Lieutenant Colonel Felix Emeterio M. Valdez, Commanding Officer, 48IB, remarked.
