The 48th IB Participates in the ROTC Advocacy Campaign

Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – The 48th Infantry (GUARDIANS) Battalion participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Advocacy Campaign at Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), Balanga City, Bataan on August 24, 2019 (Saturday).

The unit showcased the infantry squad’s maneuvers and was witnessed by around 3,000 students from BPSU Balanga & Main campuses taking up service components under Republic Act 9163 otherwise known as the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001.

Under NSTP, the State shall promote civic consciousness among the youth and likewise develop their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual & social well-being. It shall inculcate in the youth patriotism, nationalism, and advance their involvement in public & civic affairs. The students have options to take up either, the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC), the Literacy Training Service or the Civic Welfare Training Service.

Among those who witnessed the 48IB squad performance were Dr. Gregorio J. Rodis, President of BPSU; Dr. Romeo S. Nisay Jr., BPSU Balanga Campus Director; Ms. Analyn M. Bonifacio & Mr. Joseph L Pencil, NSTP Coordinators; and, Colonel Ferdinand B. Lacadin, Director of 305th Community Defense Center (CDC) in Bataan.

Major General Lenard T. Agustin AFP, Commander, 7ID, commended 48IB for participating in the activity as it was a good venue for men in uniform to connect with the students, whether they are taking up ROTC or the other service components of NSTP.

Commenting on the importance of the ROTC program, Major General Agustin said, “ROTC is one of the sources of outstanding officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who have defended the country and the Filipino people from the state enemies since its inception in 1935. It is also a good training ground to instill patriotism and discipline even to those who do not intend to join the profession of arms.”
